Alumni Spotlight - Ted Chapman

Aug 13, 2008 Ted Chapman ('08) served as president of the team for three years. In that time, Ted helped raise the profile of the club with the administration and secured a 100% increase in yearly financing from the club sports department. Ted was a two year starter for Clemson at both scrumhalf and flyhalf. Very few players have meant more to the long term success of the club than Chapman.

Currently Chapman is at Navy Officer Candidate School(OCS) in Newport, RI, a 12+ week training center that is physically and mentally challenging. Officer Candidates are pushed to the brink of their abilities and taught by United States
Marine Corps Drill Instructors, Navy Chief Petty Officers, and Navy
Officers the qualities and information needed to be a U.S. Naval Officer.
The class teams (comprised of a Marine Corps Drill Instructor, a Class
Chief Petty Officer, and a Class Lieutenant) is responsible for impressing
upon Officer Candidates the importance of discipline and teamwork in the
modern Navy. In addition to the military aspect of training, candidates
are taught courses in everything from engineering to navigation and
management. U.S. Navy OCS is one of the most rigorous and challenging
commissioning programs in the world.

After graduation, from Graduate OCS in September, Chapman will begin training at Surface Warfare Officer School (again in Newport) for three weeks. He will find out in August where his orders will be following Surface Warfare Officer
School. The most likely places are Jacksonville, Fl; Norfolk, Va; San Diego, Ca; Pearl Harbor, HI; or one of many other bases around the states (and several as far away as Japan). After a two year tour getting qualified on ship, he will report to Charleston, SC for Navy Nuclear Power School, where he will be taught the details of and how to run a Nuclear Reactor on an aircraft carrier. After That, he will get orders to one of the 4 places listed above where he will serve on a Nuclear Powered Aircraft Carrier as an Engineering Officer for at least 2 years.
