Clemson Opens Playoffs With A Solid Performance
Feb 04, 2008 Clemson began the 2008 playoff season with a 39-3 win over the University of Georgia last Saturday in Clemson. Clemson dominated the game from the start, and pressured Georgia into turnovers and mistakes throughout the game. The Tiger centers, Colton Thompson and Tyler Loftus, scored the first two tries of the game with sophomore wing Matt Starkey adding the conversions. Starkey then got on the board with his own try to end the first half of scoring at 19-0 in favor of the Tigers.
Georgia began the second half strong and were quickly awarded a penalty just inside of the Tiger's half. The penalty kick was good, bringing the score to 19-3. The Tigers soon answered as Starkey slotted his own penalty kick to bring the margin back to 19. The Tigers then found their rhythm as Loftus scored again to put the Tigers ahead 27-3. Loftus quickly followed up his score with an assist to wing Noltan Oneal on a long breakaway. Starkey converted then scored another try of his own to end the scoring at 39-3.
Clemson will next take on the Tarheels of North Carolina Saturday February 9, at 1pm in Clemson.
