Clemson Upended by North Carolina
Feb 11, 2008 In a day that saw far too may dropped balls and too many overloads left wanting, North Carolina downed Clemson by a score of 31-10. The Tarheels and the Tigers played a close first half with the score at 5-3 in favor of Carolina at the end of the half. Clemson's lone points in the half came off the foot of wing Matt Starkey, while North Carolina scored just at the halftime buzzer.
The second half saw North Carolina open up a lead on the back of their strong running open side flanker. Clemson was able to close the gap briefly with a try by wing Nolton Oneal and conversion by Starkey, but allowed North Carolina to answer quickly with a converted try of their own. The Tigers never could find a rhythm as they continued to drop balls and miss opportunities to score. UNC ended the scoring as the Tigers literally handed them the ball deep in their own territory. Final score Clemson 10, UNC 31.
The Tigers will next travel to face the formidable Arkansas State Tribe on Saturday February 16th at 1pm. All local alumni are encouraged to attend.
